Collection of Polaroid photographs related to Shane Munro, ABC sound recorder
Description
One mini-polaroid taken in Rabaul by ABC sound recordist Shane Munro. Munro was working with the Quantum program for the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) and had flown to Rabaul on a C-130 from Richmond. Quantum were doing a story on a Beaufighter that had crashed in the area during the Second World War, killing both pilot and navigator. A forensic team had disinterred the bodies and the ABC filmed the crash site and the burial of the servicemen at Bita Paka War Cemetery. Munro took the mini-polaroids and gave them to the locals. In correspondence with the Memorial in 2016, he recalled "[I] [t]hought they might appreciate seeing their image come to life in a minute. 2002 I think was the date, so well before digital cameras."
