Nominal Roll, 58/59 Battalion
Nominal roll compiled by presidents of the 58/59 Australian Infantry Battalion Association, the last of which was V44461 Private Harold John Foots, 58/59 Australian Infantry Battalion.
The collection consists of a nominal roll from 58/59 Battalion, passed from president to president within the 58/59 Battalion Association, with Pte Foots being the final president. It was his dying wish for the item to be donated to the Australian War Memorial.
The nominal roll is an adapted black faux-leather phone contact ledger, possibly custom-made in the colours of 58 Battalion. On the cover is a gold embossed title "Nominal Roll / 58/59 Battalion / Unit Members." The beginning of the nominal roll contains a list of those killed in action while serving in the Second World War, divided into the different campaigns, and listing their service numbers and date of death. The remainder of the nominal roll lists those who died following the Second World War, including dates of death, and in some cases their addresses and the company that they served in. By the end of the nominal roll, there are only a few names without associated dates of death.
