AM18 'Airwave' (1943-1944)
Description
Collection relating to Australian Army vessel AM18 'Airwave', Australia and New Guinea, February 1943 - March 1944. Collection consists of one log book written initially by Warrant Officer 1st Class D Lamond, and later taken over by a Sergeant Rowse who assumed command of the vessel when Lamond was removed due to illness. Inside the logbook is also a delivery voucher dated 14 February 1944. The logbook describes conditions and activities at sea; provides information about slipping and maintenance; and details travel around New Guinea. Entries in the logbook cease on 21 March 1944, 7 days before the 'Airwave' was destroyed by fire on 28 March 1944.
