Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of 1230753 Sergeant Leonard 'Len' William Dorricott, RAF. The collection consists of an Observers and Air Gunners Flying Log Book detailing Dorricott's navigation training in Miami, Florida, and bombing operations over Germany, Italy and the North Sea. Dorricott's service included operations in 'G for George' with 460 Squadron. The log book includes details of Dorricott's flights as a part of Operation Manna, which provided famine relief to German-occupied Holland, and Operation Exodus, which repatriated liberated prisoners of war to Britain. An entry for 11 May 1945 notes "24 POWs landed at Ford". It also contains a small number of pasted-in letters and papers, including a letter congratulating Dorricott on his reciept of the Distinguished Flying Medal, a letter from the Air Ministry in London regarding Dorricott's eligibility to join the Canadian Air Force, a small aerial map featuring the region of Dortmund and Essen, and variety of certificates, passes and newspaper clippings. Three of the loose inclusions are housed indivudually.
