Description

Material relating to the promotion and awards of Captain Robert James Henderson, 13th Battalion. The contents of this file predominantly relate to the commissioning of Henderson as an second lieutenant, and his award of the Military Cross and Bar to the Military Cross for his actions at Messines in June 1917 and Villers-Bretonneux in May 1918 respectively. A certificate of commission is included, as well as citations for both awards. Several prominent figures have sent their congratulations to Henderson, including Major Generals Herbert Vaughan Cox and William Holmes (commanding the 4th Australian Division) and General Sir Henry Seymour Rawlinson (commanding the Fourth Army). Also included is correspondence between the Base Records Office and Henderson’s father James regarding his commission and awards.
