Description

Collection of British postcards from the period of the First World War held by the Australian War Memorial.

Postcards in World War 1 were used as a cheap and effective way of sending news between the soldiers on the front line & families back home. As they were so widely used, they also became a way of spreading propaganda. War Propaganda Bureau was responsible for Britsh propaganda during World War 1 and among the people involved with it was Lord Northcliffe the owner of the Daily Mail and The Times, The Daily Mail produced several series of postcards titled "Daily Mail Battle Pictures". These came out in both black and white and also colour postcard. These postcards were printed using Official War photographs.
