Description

Correspondence relating to the civilian nursing service of Mary Anne ‘Bessie’ Pocock. The correspondence in this file primarily relates to two employment periods. The first of these is the post-war period after the Boer War, during which Pocock worked at Sydney Hospital, and hospitals at Newcastle and Gladesville. The second of these is the post-war period after the First World War, during which Pocock registered as a mental nurse for the purposes of establishing and working in a convalescent hospital at Chatswood, which she named ‘Ismailia’ after her time in Egypt during the war.
