Aircraft rigging turnbuckle
Description
Cylindrical turnbuckle 70 mm long, made from steel. Internal threads on both hollow ends. A raised central element is ribbed, such that the user may grip and turn the item.
History / Summary
Turnbuckles were used to tighten an aircraft's steel wire rigging. The provenance of this item is unknown. Collected by 7159 Private Horace Alchin who served with 17th Battalion AIF and the Australian Graves Detachment between 1917 and 1919.
