Wooden Fragment from crashed aircraft
Description
Small irregular fragment of timber from a crashed German aircraft. Approx. 90 mm x 35 mm. Traces of red paint or dope survive on one surface.
History / Summary
Provenance unknown. The presence of red paint on the fragment gives rise to the suspicion that the fragment might have come from a notable aircraft - possibly that of Baron Manfred von Richtofhen. Collected by 7159 Private Horace Alchin served with 17th Battalion AIF and the Australian Graves Detachment between 1917 and 1919.
