McInnes, Francis Thomas (Gunner, b.1919 - d.1942)
Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX129356 Gunner Francis Thomas McInnes, Heavy Battery Rabaul (Coastal Battery), Royal Australian Artillery, prisoner of war, 1942.
Wallet 1 of 1 - consists of a document and two letters of correspondence with Gladys Green, McInnes' aunt, regarding McInnes' service, medal entitlement, and death. One letter, sent by Green in the post-war period, protests a proposal that a Japanese submarine be raised in Darwin. She notes that her nephew (McInnes) was killed while a prisoner of war aboard the Japanese auxiliary ship SS Montevideo Maru, and that such a proposal would be a disservice to his sacrifice.
