BANAK, AITAPE-WEWAK SECTOR, NEW GUINEA. 1945-04-21. PERSONNEL OF NO.1 PLATOON, 2/1 FIELD COMPANY, ROYAL AUSTRALIAN ENGINEERS, BRIDGING A RIVER IN THE AREA, TO ASSIST SUPPLY LINES TO FORWARD 16 INFANTRY BRIGADE UNITS. THE ONLY MACHINERY AVAILABLE WAS AN R 4 TRACTOR TO DRAG LOGS ONTO THE SITE, A COMPRESSOR FOR BORING, AND A PILE DRIVER MOUNTED ON A GENERAL MOTOR CORPORATION TRUCK.
