Gavin, Stephen Andrew (Trooper)
Collection relating to the service of Trooper Stephen Andrew Gavin, 2/14 Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry), Afghanistan. Collection consists of a digital born diary (containing photographs and film) written by Trooper Gavin while on deployment (Mentoring Task Force 3) in Afghanistan from June 2011 to January 2012. The diary begins with Trooper Gavin's embarkation from Australia to Al Minhad in the United Arab Emirates and ends with his return to Australia. With daily entries Trooper Gavin details his diverse experiences while on deployment including: improvised explosive device (IED) training; the death of Private Matthew Christopher Lambert from an IED; the deaths of Corporal Ashley Craig Birt, Captain Bryce Robert Duffy and Lance Corporal Luke Nathan Gavin who were killed by an Afghanistan National Army (ANA) soldier; time spent with the ANA and the developing trust issues; weather and living conditions; patrols and operations; friendships; free time; his birthday while on deployment; and future plans for life after the Army. For ease of access a paper copy has been provided.
