Lieutenant Colonel (LT COL) Rod Simpson, Royal Australian Infantry Corps (RA Inf), who was acting as the Chief of Staff for Joint Task Force 633 (JTF633) in November 2008. He is shown outside one of the Head Quarter's windows that was sand-bagged to protect from blast. One of a series of photographs taken in the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO) by Mal Booth, Head of the Australian War Memorial's Research Centre, as part of the Memorial's Curators in the Field program. This program continues the Memorial's tradition of documenting Australia's experience of war, through observing the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and collecting records, photographs, oral histories and objects for the Memorial's National Collection.
