PIRAEUS, GREECE, C. 1941-06. AUSTRALIAN SOLDIERS AT A MEMORIAL SERVICE IN THE CEMETERY BESIDE THE GRAVE OF COLONEL W.E. KAY, COMMANDING OFFICER OF 2/5TH AUSTRALIAN GENERAL HOSPITAL (AGH), WHO DIED OF WOUNDS DURING A LUFTWAFFE ATTACK ON PIRAEUS DURING THE EVACUATION OF GREECE. THE SOLDIERS, FROM 2/5TH AGH, WERE ORDERED TO REMAIN IN GREECE TO TREAT ALLIED PRISONERS OF WAR, AND WERE WORKING AT THE MAIN POW HOSPITAL (KRIEGSGEFANGENLAZARETTE) NEAR PIRAEUS. (DONOR B. MOULD)
