RABAUL, NEW BRITAIN, 1946-03-12. A FEDERAL INVESTIGATION COMMITTEE INSPECTED THE JAPANESE DESTROYER YUZUKI FOLLOWING OVERCROWDING ALLEGATIONS BY THE AUSTRALIAN PRESS. THE SHIP EMBARKED 1005 INTERNEES AT SYDNEY FROM CAMPS IN VICTORIA AND NEW SOUTH WALES. THE COMMITTEE MOVED TO RABAUL BY AIR, THEIR ARRIVAL COINCIDING WITH THAT OF THE YUZUKI. AFTER INSPECTION THE 212 WOMEN AND CHILDREN WERE DESEMBARKED AND STAGED IN A CAMP UNTIL EVACUATION BY A JAPANESE HOSPITAL SHIP SOME DAYS LATER. SHOWN, THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN TAKEN FROM THE YUZUKI, ENTERING AUSTRALIAN ARMY BUSES FOR THE JOURNEY TO THEIR STAGING CAMP SITE.
