FORTIFICATION POINT, NEW GUINEA. 1944-04-08. THE STATIC EFFECT OF ROUND 12, A HOLLOW CHARGE HIGH EXPLOSIVE SHELL FIRED FROM A JAPANESE 75MM FIELD GUN, PACK TYPE, MEIJI 41 FROM A RANGE OF 150 YARDS AGAINST THE FRONT ARMOUR OF A DISABLED MATILDA TANK. THE ROUND DID NOT PENETRATE THE ARMOUR. THE GUN WAS FIRED BY MEMBERS OF THE 2/14TH FIELD REGIMENT DURING TESTS CONDUCTED BY THE OPERATIONAL RESEARCH SECTION, ARMY ORDNANCE CORPS AT HEADQUARTERS 5TH DIVISION. THE WEAPON, SERVICED BY MEMBERS OF THE 2/83RD LIGHT AID DETACHMENT, FIRED ARMOUR PIERCING, HIGH EXPLOSIVE AND HOLLOW CHARGE AMMUNITION DURING THE TESTS.
