THORPEVILLE, NEW GUINEA. 1943-06-29. THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND CHAPEL AT THE 113TH AUSTRALIAN CONVALESCENT DEPOT WAS BUILT BY CONVALESCENTS AND MEMBERS OF THE STAFF. NOTE NATIVE LABOURERS EMPLOYED THROUGH THE AUSTRALIAN NEW GUINEA ADMINISTRATION UNIT, ON THE RIGHT. CHURCH OF ENGLAND CHAPLAIN, N281115 CHAPLAIN A. H KIRK, TOOK A MOST ACTIVE PART IN ITS CONSTRUCTION. THE FIRST SERVICE WAS HELD ON EASTER SUNDAY, 1943-04-25 AND THE CHURCH WAS DEDICATED ON THE FOLLOWING SUNDAY, 1943-05-02, BY THE BISHOP OF NEW GUINEA, THE RIGHT REVEREND P. N. W. STRONG, "THE CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION".
