GOODENOUGH ISLAND, NEW GUINEA, 1942-10. IMITATION KITCHENS, WITH FIRES CONTINUOUSLY BURNING, WERE PART OF THE BLUFF AND DECEPTION PRACTISED BY A SMALL FORCE OF AUSTRALIANS WHO SEIZED THE ISLAND AND LED THE JAPANESE TO BELIEVE THAT AT LEAST ONE BRIGADE WAS IN OCCUPATION.
