Description

A promotional film produced by the Australian Commonwealth Film Unit for the Department of the Navy. The film features some of the new ships, aircraft and weapons in service or destined for service with the Navy pre-1966. Featured are a United States Charles S Adams Class Guided Missile Destroyer and the launching of the ship's Tartar guided missile. Scene of and on board Royal Navy Propoise Class submarine HMS Grampus (S04). Royal Navy (RN) Wessex Helicopters operating from a RN aircraft carrier (HMS Victorious?) and shots of RAN Wessex helicopters at HMAS Albatross, Nowra which had recently entered service. Mine warfare vessels HMAsw Teal (M1152), HMAS Ibis (M1183) and HMAS Gull (M1185) on exercise in Sydney Harbour. Shows the various systems used in minesweeping operations against contact, magnetic and acoustic mines. Aerial of Royal Navy Battle Class destroyer HMS Dunkirk (D09). Launching a Sea Cat guided missile against a drone target aircraft and destruction of the drone by the missile. Oiler HMAS Supply (AO195) and replenishment at sea of Battle Class destoyer HMAS Anzac (D59) and the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne (R21).
