A 1 RAR operation in Vietnam operation 'Kick-off'. DPR/TV/336
Description
Operation "Kick off" was a multi-battalion search and destroy operation with United States and South Vietnamese units. The Australians were transported to the Plain of Reeds by armoured personnel carriers, then began their search of the area on foot through scrub, swamp land and leech infested rivers. The Plain of Reeds had been a Vietnamese stronghold but the area had not been entered by allied forces since June 1965. Many booby traps were encountered and rendered harmless. The operation yielded Viet Cong rice caches, weapons and documents; bunkers and weapons pits were destroyed and prisoners interrogated. Lance Corporal Alan Murphy of North Melborne is identified. Cameraman Sergeant M. Shannon.
