Activities of Australian Women's Army Service in Lae New Guinea.
Description
Some 400 girls of the Australian Women's Army Service (AWAS) arrived in Lae in May 1945. Their job was to release men for service in operational areas. Scenes show girls at work as typists, clerks, draughtswomen, cooks etc, and also at play, tennis and swimming being the most popular sports. TF424 Lieutenant Colonel Margaret Joan Spencer, officer in charge all AWAS in New Guinea, salutes, and commences inspection of the girls. Sergeant Anita Olive Pritchard, AWAS Japanese interpreter, questioning a Korean prisoner.
