Canberra 201 flies again
Description
Nineteen years old and still going strong. That is the impressive record for Australia's oldest Canberra jet, officially known as A84-201. Built as a trainer by the government aircraft factory "201" was the first Australian produced Canberra to come off the assembly line, and made its maiden flight on 29 May 1953. In October the same year "201" took part in the London to Christchurch Air Race which had been arranged to mark New Zealand's centenary and was placed second in the speed in the speed section. Recently it emerged from its latest complete overhaul in RAAF base Amberly's vast No. 3 Aircraft Depot. "201" is virtually "as good as new" as it takes its place alongside other Canberras of No. 2 Squadron Amberley, Queensland.
