Army improvises huts native style
Description
The 27th Battalion AMF shows what can be done in the Australian bush. First men chop down trees, saw them and cut them into lengths for uprights of their huts. Then paper bark trees are skinned and the paper bark is used for roofing. It takes three lorry loads of bark to cover one hut, housing 40 men. Men are shown how to lay the bark by Aboriginals, now they do it themselves. Owing to the acute shortages of nails, all uprights are bound together with wire. The whole job is done with axe and saw.
