Governor General, Lord Gowrie, visits airfield, Strauss NT
Description
During his tour of the Northern Territory Lord Gowrie visited No. 452 Squadron RAAF, based at Strauss. Natives from a nearby mission, employed by the RAAF, stage a corroboree for the Governor General and are rewarded with a special issue of tobacco, handed out by Squadron Leader J.H. Starr. Flying Officer F.W. Young and Pilot Officer W.M. Coombes are shown after their return to base from a successful raid in which they destroyed two Japanese float planes. Squadron Adjutant, Flying Officer J.C. Reilly greets them and congratulates them on their victory.
