Army trains wild donkeys for pack work
Description
During the wet season tracks to army outposts become too boggy for motor convoys. To overcome this difficulty the army are rounding up wild donkeys to be trained as pack animals. These donkeys are rationed to four pounds oats, three pounds bran and one ounce of salt per day and are trained to carry one hundred pound packs over muddy tracks, through creeks and rivers where a pack horse would not be able to stand the rigours of climate and country. This item shows troops mounted on horses rounding up a herd of wild donkeys and the subsequent training of them.
