Lieutenant Colonel George Ramsay
Description
Depicts a portrait of NX34999 Lieutenant Colonel George Ernest Ramsay, ED, a prisoner of war of the Japanese captured at the fall of Singapore. He was Commanding Officer of the 1000 men of "A: Force, known as 'Ramsay Force' and at the time of the capitulation of Singapore, formerly Commanding Officer of 2/30 Australian Infantry Battalion. Lieutenant Colonel Ramsay was in charge of working camps and had many disputes with the Japanese Commanders in his efforts to have the number of men required for work reduced.
