The mud oven
Description
Two cooks are depicted baking bread in a mud oven beneath a camouflage net.
N78097 Sergeant Arthur Harold Ballment, Lance Sergeant, 1 Pioneer Training Battalion, was a self taught artist. Ballment recorded the activities of Australian soldiers in various locations within Australia during the Second World War. The pigments used in his works were made from bark, leaves and various other natural material found by the artist in the areas at which he painted.
