Electric shovel, Iron Monarch
Description
This painting depicts an electrically driven shovel scooping up the iron ore that has been broken down from the quarry face. These shovels were able to lift 10 tons at a time, filling the trucks that convoyed the ore to the crushing plant. Max Ragless was a camouflage officer with Department of Home Security in South Australia from 1941-43 and was appointed an Official War Artist in 1945.
