Early morning patrol
Description
Official war artist Frank Norton joined the aircraft carrier HMS Ocean for his second set of patrols from HMAS Commonwealth, Kure Japan on 7th August 1952. He planned to stay with the British ship for part of her 10 day patrol before being transferred to HMAS Condamine. This painting shows Hawker Sea Fury aircraft about to set off on an early morning patrol on the deck of the carrier. In the distance the Canadian and American destroyers providing the screen for HMS Ocean are visible.
