Bongawan Bridge
Description
Showing troops of 24th Australian Infantry Brigade crossing the river at Bongawan by means of portion of a destroyed railway bridge and a ladder. The structure crossing the river in the background is portion of a new bridge being constructed by Australian Army Engineers. The old bridge carried the Beaufort - Jesselton railway, and was destroyed by the Japanese during their retreat before the advance of 2/32nd Australian Infantry Battalion, Borneo, 1945.
