Church at Ainaro, East Timor
Description
A church at Ainaro in East Timor. The bells in front of the church were previously set in the towers. During the war they were used as air raid alarms by the troops. Ainaron is the oldest post in Portuguese Timor and was the summer residence of the Governor. The 2/2nd Australian Independent Company established a base here when engaged in guerilla activities against the Japanese in 1942.
