Captain J A McNulty
Description
Portrait of Captain John Albert McNulty, DX1, 2nd Australian Imperial Force.
In August 1945, McNulty was appointed the Quarter Master of No. 1 AIF Reception Camp U.K. Following the liberation of prisoner of war camps in Europe, the soldiers were transported to the United Kingdom. Upon arrival they passed though the No. 1 AIF Reception Camp, where McNulty was responsible for issuing new uniforms and equipment to the men following their period of captivity. It was at the No. 1 AIF Reception Camp where artist Stella Bowen created this portrait.
McNulty was the first soldier to enlist in Darwin during the Second World War. He later served in the Middle East, Greece, Crete, before being posted to England.
