D-Day, 0300 hours, interrogation hut, Warrant Officer George Lindenberg
Description
Inside a Nissen hut at 0300 on D-Day, an Australian Flight Officer of the British WAAF (Womens' Auxiliary Airforce) serves refreshments to an Australian pilot, Warrant Officer George Edward Maskell Lindenberg DFC, 460 Squadron. In the background a bomber crew is being de-briefed by a female British Flight Officer; another officer is writing on a blackboard. The fixed unseeing gazes of the man and woman in the foreground, quietly preoccupied as they wait for the planes and men to return, stand in contrast to the warmth of the light and the small comforts of company, food and cigarettes.
