HMAS Australia in action, Guadalcanal, 8 August 1942
Description
Depicts HMAS Australia (1928-1954) in action against a torpedo bombing attack during the Battle of Savo Island. HMAS Australia is being attacked during the allied landing of forces on Guadalcanal Islands, by Mitsubishi 'Betty' torpedo bombers of which the 'Australia' has shot down one. During this battle the RAN heavy cruiser HMAS Canberra was severely damaged being hit 24 times in less than two minutes and 84 of her crew were killed.
