The West Australian Volunteers line up to receive commissions from the Governor in Perth, Western Australia. This image was based on a photograph of the event taken on 11 December 1863. The colonial officers listed as illustrated are Colonel Bruce, Commandant of the corps, Capt L Leake, Lieutenants Dyett and Broun, and Ensigns Roe and Francisco. The wood engraving was published in The Illustrated London News, 19 March 1864.
