Sketch panarama of 24th Brigade carnival, Beaufort
Description
View from the window of Visiting Officers' Quarters, of the native Carnival arranged by 24th Australian Infantry Brigade a few days before the surrender. The Beaufort-Jesselton Jeep-railway system brought about 3,000 natives in special trains for the event. Dancing, Malay swing bands, mass and solo turns, swings and games for the children and a beauty competition were the highlights of the show that continued for two days and was opened by Brigadier S.H.W.C Porter, DSO. ED. Commanding 24th Brigade. During the opening ceremony, Beaufighter planes "shot-up" the show, a notice read "Beware of low-flying planes!", North Borneo, 1945.
