Aliakmon River and escarpment
Description
It was near this point, south-west of Servia, that the 19th Australian Infantry Brigade crossed the river over a hastily constructed and improvised bridge built by 2/1st Australian Field Company, Royal Engineers, to take up new defensive positions south of the river, during the withdrawal of the British forces from Greece, 1941.
