Panoramic Artillery Dial Sight (Turkey)
Artillery dial sight, 13 degrees x 3 magnification with cross level and flat bar dovetail guide. Numbers on azimuth scale are in arabic, while those on the dovetail correspond to '333-334' - possibly the gun numbers. Maker's name and place of manufacture is inscribed on the upper optic, together with 'Panorama Fernrohr 18233' and 'DRP 156039'. The latter number corresponds to a patent number. The maginification and angle of view is incribed on the other side. The sight is finished in dark grey, with bright finished brasswork.
This sight was found in Palestine, and would have been used for laying a gun for indirect fire by means of an auxiliary aiming point. The style was copied in later years by the Japanese and used with the Type 92 howitzer. Model number of this sight is not known.
