Description
British Pattern 1822 General Officer and Staff Officer Sword. The hilt is a gilt brass half basket type with a cartouche badge of a Victorian crown over a crossed sword and baton within a wreath. The grip is brass wire bound over fishskin. The Pattern 1897 straight spear point blade is etched for half the length in a floral design with the general officer badge surrounded by NEW SOUTH WALES MOUNTED RIFLES on the centre right and the royal cypher on the centre left. The ricasso is marked HOBSON & SONS -1-3 & 5- LEXINGTON ST LONDON -W-. It has a single fuller on each side for half the length of the blade.
