Autographed good luck flag carried by Japanese soldier Kawashima Minoru : Madang, New Guinea
Description
Japanese soldier's national flag with characters in black ink translating, 'To Mr Kawashima Minoru, Wishing you long-lasting good fortune in war, from all of your friends.' There are no personal signatures on the flag. Corners on fly are reinforced with plastic and have cotton tape threaded through them.
History / Summary
Obtained by NX169542 Corporal Reginald Frederick Sheather from a large Japanese Divisional Camp 'up the coast' North of Madang, New Guinea, while serving with 2/4 Infantry Battalion in New Guinea. Sheather was born at Summer Hill, NSW in February 1920. He enlisted on 24 May 1943 and was discharged on 31 March 1945.
