Description

Carl Gustav L14A1 Anti-Armour Weapon. Tubular construction with a conical rear section. Two pistol grips, one with a trigger assembly and has a shoulder butt plate located about the centre of the weapon. A green plastic pad is straped to the left side. It is fitted with a spring monopod that has a cross bar footing and a No 78 MI Mk1 telescopic sight marked Dr Wohler, Kassel 2x17. Painted overall dark green.

History / Summary

Medium range anti armour weapon (MRAAW) "Carl Gustav" of the type used by Australian Army during the Vietnam War and into the 21st Century. It can fire a variety of ammunition including HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank), HE (High Explosive), Illuminating and Smoke rounds. A very accurate weapon and has an effective range of 450m with HEAT rounds to 2300m with illumination ammunition. It fires a spin stabilized round which can defeat armour of 400mm (15.74 inches) at 450m. Served by two personnel, and can be fired from the shoulder, sitting or prone.
