History / Summary
The 81 mm Model 1935 mortar was used by Italian and German forces during the Second World War. The weapon was largely a copy of the French 81 millimeter Brandt mortar.
The base plate provided one of the three points of contact with the ground surface, and absorbed most of the recoil.
