Linesman's Hand Wire Reel (Japan)
Description
Japanese shoulder carried signals wire reel unit. The unit has two perforated metal wheels mounted on an axle. A short stub handle is attached to the axle ends. A thumb operated brake arrests the rotation of the drum.
History / Summary
This unit was used by the Japanese Army to lay and recover signals cable. No 1 Military History Team advised on 28/1/46 that the relic was loaded at Morotai onto "Winchester Victory" for shipment to Brisbane via Makassar, in Case No 1MH/24. Exact Provenance unknown.
