Arisaka Type 44 Carbine
Arisaka Type 38 bolt action carbine. The breech ring is stamped with a chrysanthemum (ground off), three Japanese characters (Type 44) and on the left side the Kokura arsenal mark and the serial number. The bolt has a straight arm and a round knurled cocking piece. It has a full wood stock and top hand guard that is held in place by a central barrel band and front end cap. A folding blade bayonet is attached to the muzzle that has a fixed hook quillon and a spring lock latch. The butt is split and the stock has a number of bruises.
The provenance of this weapon is not known. The Type 44 carbine, introduced in 1911, was originally issued to mounted troops in Manchuria and has the folding bayonet permanently attached to the underside of the stock.
