At Sea. "Battle" Class Destroyer HMAS Tobruk seen steaming at sea in tropical waters. Her captain, Commander Richard I. Peek OBE DSC, is the central figure in white looking forward from the ship's bridge. During her commissioned service Tobruk served with United Nations forces in Korea carrying out bombardment and blockade missions. In October 1952, Tobruk was a unit of the naval support force during the British atomic bomb tests at the Monte Bello Islands off the coast of Western Australia. On 26 May 1953, Tobruk departed Sydney for a second tour of duty in Korea and in 1955 and again in 1959 saw service with the British Commonwealth Far East Strategic Reserve (FESR). Before being paid-off in early 1972, Tobruk completed a number of training cruises in the South West Pacific Area. Her pennant number was D37 (not shown) and at times her funnel carried the number 10 denoting that her captain also held the appointment Commander, 10th Destroyer Flotilla (Commander D10).
