Description

One original three page letter (written on two sheets of paper) written to 2880 Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Patrick Collins who served with 57 Battalion AIF. The letter is dated 21 December 1918 and was written by Mrs Mary McIntosh, L/Cpl Collins' mother, of Bathurst, NSW. The letter was written to L/Cpl Collins whilst he was in the 3rd Western General Hospital in Cardiff, Wales, recovering from gun shot wounds to the arm and buttocks. The letter gives an insight into the lives of families at home in Australia, as they worry about their loved ones on the battle front. Mary writes of her fear that her son may have been wounded in the head and '...how happy I would be to have you home with us'.
