Description

Studio portrait of 405943 Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) James Keith Sinclair, 8 Squadron RAAF. Flt Sgt Sinclair enlisted in June 1941, aged 20, and qualified as a wireless operator/air gunner. He was one of the four-man crew of Bristol Beaufort A9-313 which failed to return to its Goodenough Island base, from a bombing mission to Lakunai aerodrome at Rabaul, New Britain, on 2 January 1944. Subsequent investigations concluded that the aircraft had been damaged by ground fire during the attack, probably crashing into the sea on the return journey. There were no survivors.
