Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX67491 Sapper William Neville Abbott. Consists of a typed memoir written in six chapters describing William (Bill) Abbott's service with the 2/4 Australian Field Company between 1942 and 1945. Describes Spr Abbott's service in the Middle East and New Guinea, including the Buna Track and Lae, and Borneo (Balikpapan). Prior to his service Abbott was a surf lifesaver with the Collaroy and North Kirra Beach Surf Life Saving Clubs. The skills and experience he gained as a surf lifesaver are mentioned several times throughout the memoir. Also describes surf carnivals as a form of relaxation in Palestine, Australia and New Guinea.
