Description

Studio portrait of 1274 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Robert Courtney Green. Originally a farmer from Loudon, England, Green immigrated to Australia in 1909 and worked on a farm at Bolgart, WA, prior to enlistment. L Cpl Green embarked from Adelaide with the 32nd Battalion on 18 November 1915 aboard HMAT Geelong (A2). L Cpl Green was promoted to Corporal (Cpl) on 26 May 1916. Two months later on 20 July he was listed as missing in action at Fromelles and was later confirmed killed in action on this date. He was 30 years old.

In 2009 the body of Cpl Green was exhumed from an unmarked mass grave at Pheasant Wood. His body was identified using a DNA sample provided by decendants. Along with other identified remains of Australian soldiers, Cpl Robert Courtney Green was given a military funeral on 19 July 2010 in France.
