Description

Bound manuscript titled 'The Story of a Soldier: Harry Clifford Bond'. Written by his niece, the manuscript contains biographical details of Lance Corporal Bond who served in the 2/12 Australian Field Ambulance during the Second World War. It also contains various resource materials relating to other prisoners of war (POWs) of the Japanese in South East Asia. Includes copies of biographical documents including Bond's birth certificate, oath of enlistment, war pension medical records and death certificate. Also contains extracts from his service record, interrogation statement on release and the Coroner's Inquest into his death. Contains a second-hand account from his mother of violent treatment of Bond by prison guards in the POW camps. Includes copies of photographs of Bond alone and with family members and extracts from newspaper articles on Australian POWs released by the Japanese in 1945. Also contains material from various websites relating both to Bond and the POWs in general.
